Asiatic lilies thrive in full sunlight and rich, slightly acidic soil. To encourage re-blooming, gently remove the flower heads when they start fading, but leave the stems and foliage to die back to the ground. This means that nutrients are returned to the bulb. These flower in Spring and into Summer
Asiatic Lilies enjoy a long blooming season (up to 1 month) but most of them are unscented. Planted in spring or fall, they thrive in full sun to part shade locations and do great as potted plants or as cut flowers. They are not fussy about soils, provided they are fertile and well-drained.
Oriental lilies bloom in late summer to early fall rather than spring. These exotic plants are grown from bulbs typically planted in fall. The strap like foliage emerges in spring and is followed by long stalks and flowers at summer’s end. Depending on the variety, Oriental lilies grow 3 to 5 feet tall.
Scarborough lilies do well in a sheltered position with good morning light and protection from frost. They retain their stems all year once past the bulblet stage. I grow mine under Pine trees and we get down to about -6 here and they do well. They grow well in a pot with very well draining soil but kept moist particularly during Summer.
Rain lilies look fabulous as a garden border and flower magically after rain during the warmer months. Pink Rain lily bulbs are less common than white lilies and can grow quite large. They enjoy a good amount of water during warm months but will cope with dry conditions also , so a very versatile bulb.
See Calla Lily listing for growing seed instructions.
Don’t plant the bulbs too close, make sure they are not planted to close to the soil surface and your lilies will be more likely to flower well. Good morning sunlight and protection from harsh afternoon sun will help as will adequate watering and good soil drainage is essential.
For safety Please keep pets and children away from bulbs and seeds. When lilies are flowering keep away from indoor cats please as the pollen is toxic to them, even just a small amount.
I’m sorry I can’t mail these wonderful bulbs to WA, TAS or NT.
